COCHRANE – A pair of Kapuskasing Flyers are heading to Cochrane next autumn to play in the Northern Ontario Junior A Hockey League.
Two weeks ago, the Cochrane Crunch announced on their Facebook page that Flyers alumni and Iroquois Falls natives Kobe Barrette and Carson Boutin would be wearing their colours next season. This announcement doesn’t come as a surprise to those that follow the 2018 NOJHL Champions.
Both young men have acted as affiliate players for the Crunch this past campaign. In 3GP, Barrette nabbed an assist in regular season play, but he would be left off the score sheet during his lone playoff game. He however got to see some Dudley Hewitt Cup action at the top of May, participating in a single matchup.
Boutin was more of a standout for the Crunch, coming to the rescue between the pipes on more than one occasion. He earned two wins in as many regular season outings with a Goals Against Average of 2.37 and a .947 save percentage.
The Crunch organisation had some great words to add alongside the reveal, noting that both players have been on their radar since they became bantam aged players. Boutin is Barrette in particular looks to be an important get for the team as he is described as a guy who can score some big goals and who’s extremely coachable.
