MOONBEAM – The Friends of Remi Lake are offering up a new activity for Family Day weekend.

This weekend, from Feb. 16-18, families are being encouraged to participate in a “Virtual Fishing Derby” for fun and prizes.

“Participants will be able to fish anywhere on Remi Lake,” explained spokesperson Tricia Papineau. “When they catch a fish, they will take a picture proving the length of the fish using a ruler or measuring tape. They must also include some sort of proof of the day and time when the fish was caught (Papineau recommended the home screen of a cell phone) and that it was caught on Remi Lake. They’ll then post the pictures to our Facebook page and the winners will be determined from there.”

Fishing licenses are not required for the derby, as Family Day weekend is also a free family fishing weekend.

Prizes awarded will include: longest pike, longest pickerel, longest perch, most fish caught between noon and 4 p.m. on the Feb. 16th, kids prize, family fishing fun, photography/scenery, I’ve been skunked on Remi Lake, smallest perch and best random post (the more you post, the better your odds).

Posters (which may be used as proof of participation in the tournament), may be printed at home by visiting the “Friends of Remi Lake” Facebook page, or by visiting Drisdale’s Variety in Kapuskasing or Damco Fuels or Jackie’s Variety in Moonbeam.
