KAPUSKASING – After having won the title of Miss Kapuskasing and Miss Northern Corridor just over one year ago, Jany Scherer is preparing herself for an even bigger competition on the pageant circuit, when she competes in the Miss North Ontario in Sudbury from May 9-11.

“I really anxious,” said Scherer. “Just the fact that I’m going to have the chance to compete at that level is exciting. I consider it a real personal accomplishment.”

In addition to having to brave the unknown, Scherer said she is somewhat nervous but at the same time to meet the other contestants.

“The pageant is open to contestants from Barrie heading north to Hearst, so there are going to be a lot of contestants,” she said. “It’ll be different but I’m sure it will be fun.”

There will in fact be 46 contestants competing at the pageant.

Here is the judging breakdown for contestants:

  • Preliminary Night Formal Wear 15%
  • Personal Interview with Judges 40%
  • Beauty with a Purpose 20%
  • Scholastic Testing 20%
  • Final Night Opening Number 15%
  • Public Speaking 20%
  • Preliminary Night Formal Wear 15%
  • Pre-Pageant Participation and Co-operation 10%

Scherer said while a win would be fantastic, she is hoping for a top 10 to top 15 finish. More than that, she commented she is just proud to be able to participate and represent her town.

In order to help ease the financial burden of participating in the pageant, Scherer is currently soliciting donations.

“I’ve been around to businesses and now I’m looking for individual supporters,” she said. “Any donation would be greatly appreciated.”

Anyone wishing to contribute to Scherer’s efforts can do so contacting her via her personal Facebook page or her “Jany Scherer – Miss Northern Corridor du Nord 2018” page on Facebook to make a contribution via e-transfer or by contacting Scherer directly at 705-332-0203.
