KAPUSKASING – Two kids — Kapuskasing Youth Bowling Council head Lorraine Peters told her young charges that if two kids were able to move on to the provincial championships, that she would consider the regional tournament held in Timmins earlier this month a great success.
Well, it seems as though a great number of her young bowlers and coaches took Peters’ challenge to heart, as no less than 10 kids and their four coaches managed to qualify for the provincial championships to be held in Dryden on Mar. 2-5.
“We were shooting for two and we got 10. It’s a result none of us could have anticipated,” said Peters. “I get emotional just thinking about it. That our bowlers were able to accomplish such a remarkable feat is just extraordinary. Their coaches deserve a lot of credit too.”
With this big win though, also come big expenses.
Trips to out-of-town tournaments isn’t cheap and the local YBC is now calling upon the citizens of Kapuskasing for help to send the qualifying bowlers and coaches to the provincials in Dryden.
“Any help that anyone could offer would be greatly appreciated,” said Peters.
Anyone wishing to contribute to the provincials-bound team may contact Lorraine Peters at 705-332-1469 or by stopping in at North Side Lanes.
