KAPUSKASING – The board of directors of Radio Kap Nord Communications Inc. (RKNC) has announced La Presse Communautaire/The Community Press (LPC/TCP) will suspend publication effective May 30, 2019.

The decision to suspend the newspaper’s operations comes as a result of prohibitive production costs.

“This is a decision that was not arrived at lightly,” said RKNC President, Nicole Fortier-Levesque. “Everyone on the board believes whole-heartedly in this project and we are very proud of the product the team at LPC/TCP produced and how well-received it has been by the community. The team at LPC/TCP has done a fantastic job and we commend them for their efforts. Unfortunately, the current model just isn’t financially sustainable.”

Claude Chabot, General Manager of LPC/TPC echoed Ms. Fortier-Levesque’s sentiments.

“This decision by the board is a very difficult one, which will be felt by all of the communities between Opasatika and Smooth Rock Falls,” he commented. “What the team at the newspaper has been able to accomplish in a short period of time is absolutely remarkable and the reception from the communities for the product was extraordinarily positive. It is truly regrettable that the costs of producing the newspaper are such that to continue with the project at this time just isn’t feasible.”
