KAPUSKASING – Friends, family, clients and well-wishers all recently gathered together to wish Mel Ethier and the rest of her crew the best of luck as they opened the doors to Magnifique Beauty Lounge, located at the corner of Byng Ave. and Queen St.

“We had an excellent turnout for the grand opening,” said Ethier. “We were so happy to have such a great show of support from the community.”

Ethier, a 13-year veteran hairdresser commented it has always been a long-term goal of hers to open her own salon. The opportunity recently presented itself and though it would require a quick turnaround, she decided to take the plunge.

“I was actually in Mexico and I go a message from client saying they were looking at renting out the space,” she explained. “I basically had a week to decide if I wanted the space and I decided to take it. From that point to the opening date was just a five-week span. In that time, we went from what was basically a gutted location to a full salon.”

The business is starting out with its bread and butter service (hairdressing) and will progressively be moving toward expanding services to offer clients a full salon experience.

“We have the location to accommodate it and that’s the aim,” said Ethier. “We’re starting that with a student who is trained in lash extensions and makeup, who will be working with us for the summer.”

In addition to herself, hairstylists Danielle Godard and Meagan Lallier have joined the Magnifique team.

Eventually said Ethier, an esthetician will be added to round out services.

“That’s the future goal. Right now, I’m still kind of in shock that we were able to make everything come together so quickly,” she chuckled. “I come to work every morning and I’m still not sure how we did it.”
