KAPUSKASING – For the second consecutive meet, the OK Tire Kapswim team finished first overall in the standings, after competing in Hearst last weekend and beating four other clubs by grabbing a total of 88 podiums.

The club sent a contingent of 41 of its 55 swimmers.

On the girls’ side, Danika Ethier and Kaylee LaSalle led the way by finishing first in all of their individual events.

Other podium winners were: Myriam Lepage (6), Laurence Trottier (6), Audrey Lepage (5), Leah Henderson (4), Abby LaSalle (4), Jenna Knowles (3), Emily Laurin (3), Jenna Roy (3), Tessa Dambrowitz (2), Madison Johnson (2), Annabelle Nadeau (2), Trinity Carrière (1), Audrée Dallaire (1), Raphaelle Gendron (1) and Jodie Laurin (1).

On the boys’ side, Derek Courchesne had all first-place finishes, while other podiums winners were: Jacob Girouard (5), Nicola Girouard (4), Tyler Laurin (3), Owen Mackenzie (3), Félix Lepage (2), and Olivier Trottier (1).

Our relay teams also won eight ribbons.

Other highlights of the weekend: Kody Gagnon was fourth in the 100m back (10 and under) with Claudie Audras fourth in the 50m breast (10 and under).

Addison Baker took six seconds off her 50 back, Hailey Bolduc was fifth in the 50 back (11-12 years old) while Kate Chmilewski took three seconds off her 100m free. Carley Dambrowitz was fouth in the 50m breast (11-12 yrs old) and Trixie Demeules took eight seconds off her 100m back.

Mercedes Gagnon took nine seconds off of her 100m breast, while Ciara Henderson took sour seconds off of her 50m fly. Alexa Ouimette was fouth in the 100m back (10 and under) and Olivia Reedhead took four seconds off of her 100m free.

Isabelle Renaud took 16 seconds off of her 100m free, while Sophie Renaud took three seconds off of her 100m free. Kyana Sandford took eight seconds off of her 100m breast and Catherine Stickley took nine seconds off of her 50m back.

Melissa Trudel took 21 seconds off of her 100m free and her sister Mireille took 19 seconds off of her 100m free.

Up next, the OK Tire Kapswim team will send 10 swimmers who have qualified this season for the A-Champs to Sault-Ste-Marie on February 1-3, while the 12 and under swimmers will have the chance to compete in the second Top Fish event of the season in Timmins on February 23.
