KAPUSKASING – With many individuals mourning the losses of Jody and Nicole Blais in a tragic helicopter crash, reactions from all levels of government related to Kapuskasing and the surrounding area have also been pouring in.

The tragedy has united Kapuskasing and area residents in grief according to Algoma-Manitoulin-Kapuskasing MP, Carol Hughes and Mushkegowuk-James Bay MPP, Guy Bourgouin.

“We share in the grief and sorrow which is being felt over the tragic deaths of Jody and Nicole Blais,” said Hughes.  “Like so many others, we want to extend our deepest sympathy to the Blais family, friends, colleagues, and their community during this difficult time of mourning.”

The elected representatives say the week that passed since Nicole and Jody went missing was an extremely trying time for the family and those who were involved in the search for their missing helicopter.

“We express our utmost appreciation and thank everyone who was involved in the search and rescue operation,” said Bourgouin. “We truly appreciate all the support and resources provided by the provincial, federal and municipal governments, as well as the unwavering efforts and determination of all those involved in the community volunteer group and people who supported these efforts.”

“Jody and Nicole were pillars of their community and will be deeply missed.  We offer our deepest condolences to the family, friends, and all those who were touched by this tragedy,” said both Members.”

The town of Kapuskasing released the following on Tuesday:

Kapuskasing Council would like to extend its most sincere and heartfelt condolences to the families and friends of Jody and Nicole Blais.

During these difficult times, we hope that those affected take some comfort in knowing that Jody and Nicole were well respected entrepreneurs in our community and that we see this as a significant loss for us and our citizens.

There are no words to replace this loss that many are experiencing and we offer our support.

The contributions of Jody and Nicole to Kapuskasing are very much recognized.  Their families, friends and colleagues will certainly feel a void.

Jody played a big role in the development and advancement of a new senior living complex initiative that is currently underway and without his involvement, Kapuskasing would not be so well positioned as we are now.  His contribution to the project is certainly worth commending.

We also acknowledge the dedication and perseverance of Gilbert Mondoux for assisting with the search and rescue efforts which brought a sad closure in hopes of bringing the couple back home to safety.  Your positive energy has not gone unnoticed by the hundreds of people who did not give up hope.

May there be comfort in knowing that Jody and Nicole will be remembered and that they were fortunate to have such strong supporters such as yourself and the many individuals who aided in this tragic event.

On behalf of myself and the members of Council, we continue to keep the families and friends of Jody and Nicole in our thoughts.
