KAPUSKASING – The Hugh Campbell Little Rock Bonspiel took place in Kapuskasing the weekend of January 25 and had three of the four local teams on the podium.

Kapuskasings’ Team Paquette won the ‘A’ division final over fellow rinkmates Team Geno and Kap’s Team McNeil won the ‘B’ division over Team Third of Cochrane. Smooth Rock Falls Team Cloutier brought home the win for the ‘C’ division over Team Wlad of Iroquois Falls. The ‘D’ division had to go to an extra end before Cochrane’s Team Marfil took the win over Team Desrochers of IF.

In total 16 teams, with kids aged six to 13, from Cochrane, Iroquois Falls, Kapuskasing and Smooth Rock Falls participated in the annual event.

“The tournament has been running for around 27 years,” said Hugh Campbell, organizer. “It began as the Kapuskasing Little Rock Invitational Bonspiel, and then a few years ago I was humbled when they changed the name of the tournament to honor my years of involvement. I have been involved for over 30 years with the little rock program, almost since its inception and it is great to see all the kids come out to participate in this great sport.”

The tournament saw action all day Friday and Saturday. As well there is a closest to the button contest for the participants in age categories of 6/7, 8/9, 10/11 and 12/13, a pizza supper and each curler receives a participation medal and a gift.

Closest to the button winners were: Bryn Eagles of SRF, Megan Card of Kap, Daniel Boucher of IF and Elle Jensen of Kap.
